Following on the success of last year’s premiere, the second annual Best of the West showdown in Denison on Wednesday evening attracted more spectators. In addition to the full bleachers, others stood several persons deep around the show ring at the Crawford County Fairgrounds.

In addition to the reputation built on last year’s success, the showdown this year attracted more spectators because champions from two more counties were added, making a nine-county district.

Last year the Best of the West was for champions from Crawford, Carroll, Harrison, Ida, Monona, Sac and Shelby counties. This year Woodbury and Cass county champions were invited.

In the Best of the West, the champion market and breeding beef, sheep, swine and goats from those counties compete for honors and the chance to advance to the state contest.
