Carroll G. Skarin June 18, 1932 - June 17, 2019 Carroll G. Skarin was born June 18, 1932 to David and Florence Bilsten Skarin in Hayes Township, Ida County, Iowa. He was raised on the farm, attended rural schools and Kiron High School where he graduated with the class of 1950. After graduation Carroll drove truck for Howard Larson and later worked for his father who owned the Skelly Service Station in Kiron. Carroll and brother, Warren, purchased the station from their father in the late 1950's and with brother Bob's bulk fuel business, Skarin Brothers Skelly was in operation for many years. In addition to the gas station, Carroll had a grinding service for local farmers and also delivered feed and seed when he and Warren became Supersweet feed and Pioneer seed dealers. His spare time was spent with classmates and friends, fishing, bowling and attending events of hometown variety. Carroll married Rena Jenkins at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa, in April of 1957. The couple resided in Kiron where they raised daughters, Coleen, Cindy and Rhonda. Carroll was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Kiron and served on the church council. He was a council member for the City of Kiron and held various positions in community committees over the years. In 1975 Carroll started to ease his way out of the service station business and was hired as rural mail carrier until he was appointed Postmaster in Kiron. During the same period he sold real estate with his brother, Warren. Retiring from the post office in 1995, Carroll and Rena moved to Denison. Carroll continued to sell houses and was employed by the Denison Newspapers as route driver delivering bundles to area businesses. With declining health, Carroll became a resident of the Denison Care Center in May of 2018 where he resided until his death on June 17, 2019, one day shy of attaining his 87th birthday. Carroll was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Robert, Mary Ann, Warren and Flora Belle; his parents-in-law, Rule and Dorothy; brothers-in-law Nels, Merlin, Ronald and Dale and sisters-in-law Donna and Sharon. Survivors include his wife, Rena; three daughters Coleen and husband Glen, Cindy and companion Jim, and Rhonda and husband Larry; nine grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Carol Marie, Carole Ann and Diane; stepmother-in-law, Joanne; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral Services were held 11:00 A.M., Monday, June 24, 2019, at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison, Iowa, with Aaron Terwilleger officiating. Soloist Benjamin Schauer sang "My Faith Looks Up to Thee," "Hallelujah" and "I'm So Glad We Had This Time Together" accompanied by Stephanie Lantz on the keyboard. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Mardi Mohrhauser, Madisen Bielenberg, Megan Remmick, Skylar Bielenberg, Blaine Remmick, Malory Wood, Adam Remmick, Nate Perrien and Drew Perrien. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date at the Kiron Cemetery in Kiron, Iowa. The family invited everyone to the Boulders Conference Center for fellowship and lunch catered by Lidderdale Country Store immediately following the service. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.
