Rosa Garcia Villagomez, 36, of Denison, died in a traffic accident that occurred at 4:48 p.m. on Friday, November 30, in Monona County.

The accident occurred on county road E16 west of Sumac Avenue. The location is about three miles east of Mapleton.

Villagomez was a passenger in a 2007 Nissan Maxima being driven by Luis Perez Campos, 26, of Denison.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, Campos was driving west on E16 when his vehicle struck a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 being driven by Linda Baker, 46, of Kiron.

Baker’s truck was having mechanical problems at the time and had previously been traveling east.

The preliminary investigation shows that Baker’s truck was possibly partially in the westbound lane of traffic.

Villagomez was using her seatbelt, according to the state patrol.

Campos was injured in the accident. He was transported by Mapleton Rescue to Mercy Hospital in Sioux City.

The accident is still under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol.

The state patrol was assisted by the Monona County Sheriff’s Office, Mapleton Rescue and Mac’s Towing.
