At 7:44 a.m. on May 29, Maribel Guzman, 38, of Denison, driver of a black 2009 Chevrolet Traverse, was headed north on North 17th Street at the intersection of 5th Avenue North when Israel Antonio Rodriguez Baires, 39, of Denison, driver of a silver 2017 Nissan Quest, entered the intersection at the same time and collided. All airbags in the vehicles were deployed and both vehicles were disabled. Waderich’s Towing in Denison towed both vehicles from the scene. Both drivers and four of the passengers had complaints of pain and were transported by paramedics to Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison for further examination and treatment. Guzman was charged with failure to yield to a vehicle on the right. Both vehicles sustained $15,000 in damages and were totaled.

At 7 p.m. on May 29, Diane Reisz parked and left her car in the Pronto parking lot. When she returned, the front passenger side corner of her car had been damaged, presumably by another vehicle. The damage consisted of a broken turn signal and damaged bumper worth approximately $500. At this time, there is no suspect vehicles.

At 3:12 p.m. on May 31, Sofia Angelita Lynn Leon, 14, of Denison, driver of a black 2018 Honda moped, and Libby Mireye Lynn Leon, 11, of Denison, driver of a black 2018 Yamaha moped, were eastbound on Avenue C in Denison approaching the intersection of Highway 39 when the traffic signal changed from green to yellow. Sofia stopped abruptly and Libby struck the rear of Sofia’s moped causing both operators to be ejected from their respective units. Sofia sustained abrasions to her knees and Libby sustained abrasions to her head, arm and hand. There was approximately $100 damage to each moped. Libby was transported to the Crawford County Memorial Hospital.


At 10:25 p.m. on May 28, Sunday Moses Faya, 20, of Denison, was arrested for driving while license is on a suspended status.

At 7:16 p.m. on May 30, Jose Domingo Rangel, 36, of Denison, was arrested for driving while license suspended.

At 6:08 p.m. on May 30, Shawn Renee Rhodes, 44, of Dow City, was arrested on two warrants for theft in the 5th degree.

At 3 a.m. on June 1, Jose Angel Reyes-Mendoza, 24, of Denison, was arrested on a warrant.

At 11:30 a.m. on June 1, Mario Alberto Cantu, 30, of Denison, was arrested for domestic abuse and unlawful interception of communications.

Vandalism, Break-Ins

At 8:30 p.m. on May 27, Gary Allen Keesling, of Denison, reported criminal mischief to his brown 2014 GMC pickup.

At 6:46 p.m. on June 2, Matt Knowles, of Charter Oak, reported a basement door kicked in, a broken window on an R.V. and a broken window at a building on 137 Main Street in Charter Oak. Repair costs are estimated at approximately $450. It doesn’t appear entry was gained at all three places and it is also possible that nothing was taken.
