A Denison man received suspected minor injuries after driving his car into the path of another vehicle at 10:50 a.m. on March 6. Donald Leroy Ulmer, 84, of Denison, was driving a silver 2009 Mercury Grand Marquis and was turning left off Highway 59/141 onto Medical Parkway. At the same time Anthony Scott Castle, 30, of Somers, was driving a maroon 2006 Chevrolet Impala east in the outside lane of Highway 59/141. He noticed that Ulmer was pulling out in front of him, applied the brakes and skidded 114 feet before striking the Ulmer vehicle in the passenger side doors. The Ulmer vehicle came to rest 41 feet on the side of the road after the impact, facing in the opposite direction. The Castle vehicle came to rest 48 feet on the side of the road after the collision. A witness said that she was in her vehicle at the stop sign when Ulmer pulled out in front of Castle’s vehicle. Another witness said Castle was traveling at approximately 60 miles per hour when Ulmer pulled out in front of Castle; Castle stepped on the brakes but was unable to stop in time. Ulmer was taken to Crawford County Memorial Hospital (CCMH) by Crawford County Ambulance. Castle also received suspected minor injuries and was transported to CCMH. Ulmer’s vehicle received $8,000 damage and was totaled. Castle’s vehicle received $4,500 damage and was also totaled. The accident report states that a re-examination was given to Ulmer for the reason that his license expires in July and the investigating officer wanted to make sure his vision meets requirements due to him pulling out in front of a vehicle and the severity of the accident. Ulmer was cited for failing to yield upon entering a through highway.

MacGregor stated that Belisle didn’t stop at the flashing red signal and proceeded through the intersection. There was $3,000 damage to Belisle’s vehicle and $3,000 damage to MacGregor’s vehicle.
