Arrests

At 12:24 a.m. on September 5, LaSaun Ay’Mel Thompson, 19, of Omaha, NE, was arrested for assault.

At 8:17 p.m. on September 7, Kevin Ernest Russman, 60, of Denison, was arrested for hit and run.

Thefts, Vandalism

At 12:25 p.m. on September 7, there was a report of criminal mischief on Chamberlin Drive in Denison.

At 4:28 p.m. on September 7, Robert Cook of Vail reported identity theft.

Accidents

At 7:22 a.m. on September 3, Sandra Kay Bauman, 62, of Charter Oak, driver of a maroon 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling east on Highway 141. Derek Norman Soll, 35, of Dow City, driver of a red 2013 GMC Sierra pickup was traveling west on Highway 141. Both units were near the intersection of 160th Street. Bauman was traveling behind a commercial vehicle and stated that she moved toward the centerline to see around the vehicle that she was following at the same time she met Soll, striking the side mirrors and sides of both vehicles. No injuries were reported. There was $1,500 damage to Bauman’s vehicle and $2,500 damage to Soll’s pickup.

At 5:01 p.m. on September 5, a hit and run was reported. A tractor/trailer was southbound on Highway 39 approximately four miles north of Deloit. Naydeon Alcaraz Hernandez stated another tractor/trailer hauling a windmill blade was northbound and the blade struck a vehicle, breaking the driver’s mirror, denting the door and shattering the window. The driver had minor cuts from it. Neither vehicle stopped. The driver of the vehicle reported the incident to the sheriff’s office.

At 7:02 p.m. on September 6, a white 2018 Ford F150 patrol truck, driven by Jerrod Henningsen, 43, of Denison was stopped near the gas pumps in the parking lot of The Country Store in Denison when he observed a person operating a vehicle with a suspended license. The person noticed Henningsen and hurried to get away before Henningsen could turn around. As Henningsen was going to go around the pumps, he reversed, checked his vehicle mirrors and, not seeing anyone or other vehicles, he proceeded to back up and at the same time a vehicle appeared on his passenger side of the pumps. The vehicle, a silver 2016 Mazda sedan driven by Kristin J. Heesacker, 53, of Omaha, NE and Henningsen’s vehicle struck each other. Heesacker was at the gas pumps to get fuel and she needed to have her vehicle on the other side where her fuel cap was. She noticed the patrol truck in the parking lot, but thought he was getting gas so she attempted to pull around him to get to the other side of the pumps. Henningsen then moved in reverse and they they struck each other. There was $500 damage to Heesacker’s vehicle and $1,000 damage to the patrol truck.

At 3:55 p.m. on September 8, Alvin Lee Swanson, 58, of Denison, driver of a red 1995 Kawasaki motorcycle, was westbound on Second Avenue North at the intersection of North 16th Street when he attempted a right turn onto 16th Street. The motorcycle tipped over, ejecting the passenger and causing injury. He was transported to Crawford County Memorial Hospital. No damage was reported to the motorcycle.
