At 7:10 p.m. on November 26, Michelle Denise Thies, 46, of Ute, was arrested on a Crawford County warrant for four counts of theft in the fifth degree. Bond was set at $300.

Thefts and Break-Ins

At 6:04 a.m. on November 19, Justin Patrick Wegman, of Denison, reported that someone broke into his vehicle.

On November 26, a stereo amplifier and subwoofer were reported stolen from a 2001 Toyota Celica located at the parking lot of Wheels and Deals in Denison. It is believed the theft occurred between mid-August and November 26.

On November 26, a black 2005 Dodge Ram truck was reported stolen from Elevate Roofing early Sunday, November 25.

A theft that happened sometime mid- to late-October at 1360 D Avenue was reported this week. Stolen was a power washer with a Honda motor, valued at $1,500. Also stolen were 60 gallons of diesel fuel valued at $161.

At 1:10 p.m. on November 26, Chad Langenfeld reported a company truck belonging to Langenfeld Contracting was taken from 911 South 8th Street in Denison and was spotted at Ohl’s Trailer Park in Dow City.


At 3 p.m. on November 17, Sheila Marie Ferry, 54, of Schleswig, was backing out of a driveway on Valley View Drive in Schleswig and struck a properly parked black 2003 Chevy Impala owned by John Patrick Hilburn, of Wall Lake. The Impala was struck in the left front quarter and left front door, pushing the front of the vehicle against the curb. Damage was also done to the right rear tire, which was up against the curb. Ferry’s white 201 Dodge Ram pickup was not damaged. The Impala received $2,500 damage.

At 5:43 p.m. on November 21, Gail Lynn Bruck, 55, of Denison, driver of a white 2010 Chrysler Sebring was traveling west on Broadway when Nubia Victoria Salazar de Escalante, 35, of Denison, driver of a red 2007 Toyota Sequoia made a proper stop but neglected to look for oncoming traffic. Salazar’s Toyota struck Bruck’s vehicle on the driver’s side. After hitting Bruck’s vehicle, Salazar proceeded to leave the scene of the accident and headed home to 1211 3rd Avenue South. Bruck followed Salazar to her house. Salazar was cited for no valid license and leaving the scene of an accident. No injuries were reported and both cars were driven away from the scene. There was approximately $1,500 in damage to the Toyota and $1,500 damage to the Chrysler.

At 7:12 p.m. on November 21, Ryan Craig Saunders, 74, of Basking Ridge, New Jersey, was driving a gray 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee north on Highway 39 when a deer entered the road from the west ditch. The Jeep struck the deer, causing $4,000 damage to the vehicle. The deer was injured and had to be put down.

At 9:28 a.m. on November 26, a hit and run accident was reported at 807 Urbandale Drive in Denison. Martin Mancilla Gomez, owner of a red 2010 Dodge Ram pickup, stated that the hit and run must have happened after 8:30 p.m. the previous night or early the morning of November 26. Minor damage was done, amounting to approximately $500, to the rear of the bumper on the passenger’s side – a medium-size dent on the corner of the bumper. Some paint chips from the truck’s bumper were on the ground beneath the dent. The truck was parking facing south on the west side of Urbandale Drive just south of Gomez’s driveway. The investigating officer said the dent directly on the passenger side rear corner indicates that whatever hit the truck likely was coming from the driveway, possibly someone who pulled into the drive to back out and turn around. There are no witnesses or suspects to the incident.

At 1:53 a.m. on November 27, an automobile accident was reported at the Smithfield parking lot in Denison. Gilberto Sartun Garcia, owner of a black 2015 Honda Pilot, was leaving work and noticed some damage to the rear bumper and rear door of his vehicle. Garcia stated a truck was parked behind his vehicle when he first parked at the beginning of his work shift. There is no information on the other vehicle other than it was a truck. Garcia’s vehicle sustained $1,500 damage.

At 2 p.m. on November 27, a rollover accident was reported. A vehicle rolled into the south ditch striking a telephone box. No one reported the accident. Paperwork found at the location belonged to Jeff Whitmore. The location of the rollover accident was not listed.

At 6:11 a.m. on November 28, Roger Edward Rasmussen, 48, of Manilla, driver of a white 2016 Chevrolet Silverado pickup owned by the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, was traveling east on Highway 141 around the 330th Street area when an adult deer ran into the driver’s side of his vehicle causing the side air bags to deploy. No injuries were reported. The vehicle was able to be driven away.
