Ar-We-Va and IKM-Manning were winners, while Boyer Valley saw its season come to an end in regional softball action on Monday night.
Ar-We-Va got a huge night at the plate from senior Emily Hinners, as the Rockets picked up a 9-8 victory over Council Bluffs St. Albert in a Class 1A, Region 2 first-round matchup at Council Bluffs.
IKM-Manning hosted Tri-Center in a Class 2A, Region 3 first-round contest at Irwin and the Wolves bettered the Trojans for the third time this season with a 12-2 victory in five innings.
Boyer Valley, meanwhile, suffered a 7-3 loss to Oakland Riverside in a Class 1A, Region 2 first-round game at Oakland, as the Lady Bulldogs saw their season halted under first-year head coach Paige
St. Albert 8
Ar-We-Va snapped a four-game losing streak on Monday night, as the Rockets won their first regional game since 2014 with their 9-8 victory over a St. Albert club that finished 4-29 overall.
With the win, Ar-We-Va moved to 8-11 overall.
Hinners had a career night in leading Ar-We-Va to the victory, as she went 3-for-4 with two, three-run home runs, a two-run single for a total of eight runs batted in for the Rockets.
Her second three-run shot came with runners on first and second with one out in the sixth and the game tied at 6-6.
After belting a two-run shot in the second, Hinners delivered a two-run single in the fifth to tie it at 6-6.
Her third homer of the season put Ar-We-Va up 9-6 and it was needed, as St. Albert plated two runs in the bottom of the seventh before a ground ball to Kora Obrecht at second base resulted in the third out of the game.
Hinners almost tallied her season RBI total in one night, as she went into the game with 11 runs batted in through her team’s initial 18 games.
Leslie Luft went 1-for-4 with a double and one run for the Rockets. Maggie Ragaller was 1-for-3.
Obrecht and Maci Ruch both went 1-for-4 with one run each.
Jadeyn Smith also was 1-for-4 at the plate, as she also earned the pitching win, allowing eight runs on eight hits with three strikeouts and three walks.
Tri-Center 2 (5)
A six-run fourth inning bolstered IKM-Manning on Monday night, as the Wolves won for the fourth time in five games with a 12-2 triumph in five innings over Tri-Center.
IKM-Manning, which beat T-C 15-4 and 13-1 during the regular season, improved to 10-15 overall with the victory.
Leading 10-2, IKM-Manning plated two runs in the bottom of the fifth to win by the 10-run rule.
The Wolves had six hits on the night.
Joanna Freese went 2-for-3 with three runs scored. Emily Kerkhoff also was 2-for-2 with three runs.
Lexi Branning went 1-for-3 with one run, while Bianca Cadwell was 1-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and one run.
Grace Youngren, Zoey Melton, Jessica Christensen and Mya Doyel all scored runs. Melton also drove in three runs for the Wolves.
Cadwell threw all five innings for the pitching win, as she yielded the two runs on just one hit with seven strikeouts and three walks.
Boyer Valley 3
Boyer Valley’s 2019 softball season came to an end, as Riverside won for the fifth time in six games with its four-run triumph at home.
The loss ended BV’s year at 4-19 overall.
Riverside raced out to a 7-0 lead after four innings.
BV plated its initial run in the top of the fifth, adding two runs in their final at bat in the seventh.
The Lady Bulldogs had five hits.
Leah Cooper went 1-for-4 with a home run.
Nicole Behrendt was 1-for-2. Kylie Petersen went 1-for-3 with one run.
Alexia Miller was 1-for-3 with one RBI and one run. Jaci Petersen also went 1-for-3.
Behrendt started in the circle for BV and took the pitching loss.
She gave up seven runs on eight hits, struck out two and walked three in throwing 109 pitches in the loss.
