The Ar-We-Va girls and boys were victorious over Coon Rapids-Bayard in Rolling Valley Conference basketball play on Friday night at Westside.
In game one, the Ar-We-Va girls jumped out to a 24-0 lead and wound up cruising to a 60-20 victory.
In the nightcap, the Ar-We-Va boys set the tone early with a 13-2 lead after one quarter, as the host Rockets picked up 57-42 triumph over the visiting Crusaders.
Ar-We-Va improved to 2-0 in the RVC and overall with Friday’s 40-point victory.
Senior Emilee Danner led Ar-We-Va’s attack with her second double-double of the season, netting 19 points and grabbing 12 rebounds to go with seven steals and six assists.
Jadyen Smith complemented Danner with 15 points and seven boards.
Leslie Luft added seven points, three assists, two boards and two steals.
Emily Hinners also had five points and four boards.
Sara Schurke finished with four points, three boards and three assists, while Hannah Kraus had three points, two assists and two steals in the win on their home court.
"We came out strong, as our press forced them into a lot of turnovers," commented Ar-We-Va coach Dan Kock.
"We had a very good first half and didn’t turn the ball over," he added.
Friday’s 15-point win for Ar-We-Va moved the Rockets to 2-0 in conference play and overall.
Leading by 11 after one quarter, Matt Wilken’s Ar-We-Va club outscored CR-B 19-8 in the second to take a 32-10 advantage at halftime.
That proved to be the difference, as CR-B outscored Ar-We-Va 32-25 in the second half.
Drew Schurke led the way for Ar-We-Va with 24 points, four assists and four steals.
Keegan Simons added another double-double with 14 points and 14 boards.
Derek Oeser, back after missing the opener with a hip injury, recorded 10 points and seven boards.
Wyatt Neumann tallied five points and four boards.
Henry Segebart had two points, three boards and three assists, while Will Ragaller finished with two points and three boards for the host Rockets.
