Ar-We-Va concluded a perfect 9-0 regular season on Friday night with a 42-0 shutout of River Valley in Eight-Man, District 1 action at Correctionville.

Ar-We-Va, the top-rated team in the state, captured the District 1 title outright with the lopsided victory.

The Rockets will now host No. 2 Northwood-Kensett (8-1) in the first round of the playoffs this Friday night at Westside at 7 p.m.

Chris Petersen’s Ar-We-Va squad jumped out to a 20-0 first-quarter lead over River Valley and led 39-0 at halftime.

The Rockets had plenty of stars again in the win.

Quarterback Keegan Simons carried the ball 11 times for 99 yards and was 9-of-15 for 213 yards with four TD throws in the passing department.

Simons had scoring passes of 37 and 57 yards to Drew Schurke and 29 and 25 yards to Derek Oeser.

Schurke had another outstanding all-around performance.

Besides catching four passes for 113 yards and two scores, he also ran the ball nine times for 39 yards with a four-yard TD run, completed two of three passes for 66 yards with a 39-yard TD pass to Oeser and booted a 33-yard field goal for good measure in the fourth quarter.

Oeser finished the night with three catches, all resulting in TD connections.

Dalton Ehlers had four catches for 11 yards as well.

"Our defense was fantastic, as we kept them off the scoreboard and forced five turnovers. Our offense played extremely well in the first half," commented Ar-We-Va’s Petersen.

"We had a continuous clock the entire second half and we utilized our run game in keeping the ball on the ground," he added.

"We’re matched up with a very tough opponent in the first round of the playoffs with Northwood-Kensett."

"We will have to play our best football of the year in order to advance to the next round," Petersen said.

Defensively for Ar-We-Va on Friday night, Will Ragaller led with 10.5 tackles. Schurke added seven tackles.

Oeser followed with six tackles. Wyatt Neumann had four tackles with an interception. Riley Neumann had three tackles with a fumble recovery, while Simons picked off three passes in the victory.
