Area cross country teams compete at Guthrie Center

Class 1A cross country

Boyer Valley and IKM-Manning cross country athletes took part in a Class 1A state-qualifying meet on Thursday at Guthrie Center.

The top three teams and top 15 individuals advance to the state meet set for Saturday at the Lakeside Municipal Golf Course at Fort Dodge.

On the boys’ side, IKM-Manning placed eighth overall with 225 points, while Boyer Valley ran 11th as a team with 269 points.

Earlham won the boys’ team title with 84 points.

Also qualifying for the state meet were second-place Nodaway Valley (92) and third-place Woodward Academy (96).

On the girls’ side, Boyer Valley finished sixth in the final team standings with 218 points.

IKM-Manning competed with three girls.

The top three teams for the girls were Earlham (86), Tri-Center (99) and Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center (108).

IKM-M boys

Tanner Spoelstra led IKM-Manning’s attack, placing 26th overall out of 143 runners in a time of 19 minutes, 49.58 seconds.

Quentin Dreyer ran 31st in 19:57.08.

He was followed by Connor Keller (47th, 20:34.47), Parker Behrens (63rd, 21:07.56), Adam Gruhn (66th, 21:15.43), Haven Reese (81st, 21:53.79) and Joey Greazel (87th, 22:18.82).

BV boys

Boyer Valley senior Justin Ambrose placed fifth overall to qualify for the state meet for the fourth time in his outstanding career.

Ambrose ran 18:12.78 on Thursday.

At the state meet, Ambrose placed 18th as a junior, 56th as a sophomore and 135th as a freshman.

The Class 1A state race is scheduled for Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

Joshua Baudler of Nodaway Valley won the individual title in 17:31.77.

Nathaniel Green ran 52nd for BV in 20:41.34.

He was followed by Ben Zehner (71st, 21:26.64), Clay Roberts (77th, 21:36.95), Adam Puck (78th, 21:45.55) and Ben Behrendt (137th, 27:19.13).

BV girls

Kylie Petersen led the BV girls at Guthrie Center, placing 24th overall out of 127 athletes in 23:40.42.

Katlyn Tremel placed 26th in 23:51.49.

She was followed by Marie Hanigan (33rd, 24:18.55), Katy Puck (81st, 27:11.91), Sky Freeman (98th, 28:27.56), Jessica Heiman (102nd, 28:51.97) and Caleigh Van Houten (120th, 32:27.01).

Tri-Center’s Peyton Pogge claimed the individual title in 19:56.00.

IKM-M girls

Emma Beerman paced the IKM-Manning girls by placing 30th in a clocking of 24:10.95.

McKenna Mullen finished 50th in 25:19.79 and Macie Doyel ran 71st in 26:25.51.
