Atlantic pushed six runs across over the final two innings on Friday night, as the Trojans handed Denison-Schleswig its first softball loss of the season with a 9-7 triumph over the Monarchs at Denison.
The loss dropped D-S to 4-1 in the Hawkeye 10 Conference and 6-1 overall on the season.
D-S opened the scoring with three runs in the last of the fourth inning.
Atlantic came back to tie it at 3-3 with three runs in the top of the fourth, but Kevin Dau’s Monarch squad then plated four runs in the fifth to take a 7-3 lead.
Atlantic tied it again at 7-7 with four runs in the sixth and then scored two more runs in the seventh.
D-S lost despite outhitting Atlantic by a 10-8 margin.
Alex Mohr went 2-for-3 with one run for D-S.
Paige Armijo also was 2-for-3 with one run batted in.
Raegan Andersen went 1-for-4 with a double, one RBI and one run, while Sarah Heilesen was 1-for-3 with two runs on the night.
Kambrie Dau finished 1-for-3 with one RBI, while Kayla Rauch was 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
Kailey Pick also went 1-for-4 with one run and Allana Arkfeld was 1-for-1 for the Monarchs.
Heilesen suffered the pitching loss in a 143-pitch performance, as she gave up the nine runs (six earned) on eight hits, struck out seven and walked eight.
