The Denison-Schleswig girls dropped their fourth consecutive game on Tuesday night, as the Monarchs were shut out 10-0 in Hawkeye 10 Conference softball action at Atlantic.
With the setback, Kevin Dau’s D-S club fell to 5-3 in the H-10 and 10-5 overall.
It was the second loss by shutout in the four-game skid for Class 4A sixth-ranked D-S, which managed only five hits against the Class 3A No. 7 Trojans.
Atlantic opened with four runs in the first inning, adding three in the third, two in the fourth and another in the fifth to win by the 10-run rule.
All five hits for D-S were singles by Alex Mohr, Sarah Heilesen, Paige Armijo, Kayla Rauch and Tatum Fink.
Heilesen opened in the circle for D-S and took the pitching loss in two innings of work, as she gave up six runs on four hits, struck out one and walked five.
Hailey Meseck then threw two and one-third, allowing four runs on five hits with one walk.
"In softball, you need good pitching, solid fielding be able to put the ball in play. We didn’t do a very good job in any of those areas against a quality Atlantic," commented Dau.
"Right now, we’re struggling and dealing with a little adversity, but this team is good enough to battle through it. We just have to keep grinding and fighting through the little funk we’re in," he added.
