BV girls vs. Saintes

Boyer Valley’s postseason volleyball run came to an end on Thursday night, as the Lady Bulldogs lost 3-0 to second-ranked Council Bluffs St. Albert in a Class 1A regional semifinal match at Council Bluffs.

St. Albert defeated Larry Neilsen’s BV club 25-10, 25-15, 25-9, as the Lady Bulldogs saw their season halted at 18-14 overall in matches and 53-41 in games.

St. Albert (23-9) took on Oakland Riverside (26-12) in the Region 2 championship match on Monday night at Tri-Center High School at Neola.

Abbie Miller led all BV servers by going 9-of-10 with one ace.

Katelyn Neilsen was 7-of-8 with one ace as well. Sydney Klein went 4-of-4, as did Taylor Klein.

Leah Cooper finished 3-of-5 at the service line as well.

Jessica Fokken paced BV at the net with six kills. Neilsen and Cooper each tallied four kills with Addie Wood contributing two kills.

Miller had a team-high 13 assists.

Taylor Klein led the team with nine digs.

Neilsen followed with seven digs. Cooper also had four digs for a BV club that will lose four seniors to graduation in Miller, Fokken, Taylor Klein and Marie Hanigan.

For St. Albert, Allie Petry led her team at the net with 17 kills.

Lauren Williams also had nine kills for the Saintes, which won for the ninth time in 10 matches.

They are good. Real good. I firmly believe St. Albert has a legitimate chance to win the Class 1A state title," commented BV’s Neilsen.

"I thought our girls did what they could, but it was a simple matter of being outmatched. I’m proud of the girls for their effort and the way that we ended the season," he added.

For the season as a whole, there was about a 10-day stretch in the middle of conference play that really hurt us, but our kids found a way to pick up the pieces and get back to playing good volleyball," Neilsen said.

"I’m not sure many groups could have, or would have bounced back like this team did," the Lady Bulldog boss stated.
