Bulldog Notes: Boyer Valley is coming off a season a year ago when the Bulldogs won just one game, that being a 54-26 triumph over West Harrison in the Eight-Man, District 8 opener in week three of the fall campaign. Optimism is high for the new year, though, as Malone returns several players in the skill positions, including Reineke at quarterback, Hunter Soma at running back and its four top receivers in Dylan Berens, Hunter Soma, Lucas Berens and Jesse Soma. BV will once again play in one of the toughest Eight-Man districts in the state with the likes of Audubon, Exira/Elk Horn-Kimballton, Coon Rapids-Bayard and Woodbine.

Comments from Malone: Our senior class has seen a lot of football over the past couple of years. They’ve experienced the highs and lows, which has only contributed to the exceptional leadership they have exhibited in the early season. Our skill positions are largely the same as last year, which has allowed us to hit the ground running once we got into camp. Defensively, we took a hit due to graduation, but the young men who return on that side of the ball have an increased focus on intensity and athleticism. Our special teams play continues to be a strong point for us, as we have been pleased with the progression of our return game and punting. District 8 is loaded with returning talent and arguably the most competitive district in all of eight-player. Audubon is the clear favorite, as they return almost everyone except some linemen. The early non-district games will tell us more about District 8 with some major matchups with sister districts. While our team is still young, what we have seen so far appears to be one of the most athletic units we have coached. What we lack in size and power, we feel we have plenty of speed and agility to compensate. Although things like athleticism and unity don’t necessarily translate to a season outcome, we are geared up for an enjoyable season.
