BV teams vs. Spartans

Boyer Valley and West Monona split a pair of nonconference basketball games on Monday night at Onawa.

In the girls’ contest, West Monona outscored BV 42-15 in the second half en route to a 76-41 victory over Larry Neilsen’s Lady Bulldog club.

In the nightcap, the BV boys won their second consecutive game with a 58-41 triumph over the host Spartans.

Girls’ results

Monday’s 35-point loss dropped BV to 2-2 overall on the year.

BV trailed by one at 13-12 after one quarter and by eight at 34-26 entering the halftime locker room.

Leading 54-37 to start the fourth, West Monona outscored BV 22-4 over the final eight minutes, including 9-0 in the final five minutes of the contest.

Marie Hanigan scored 10 points, grabbed six rebounds, dished out three assists and collected two steals for BV.

Leah Cooper also had 10 points, four boards and two steals.

Taylor Klein contributed eight points and four boards.

Talia Burkhart had seven points and four boards, while Katelyn Neilsen finished with five points, six boards, four assists and four steals.

BV hurt itself by committing 35 turnovers and converting only 14-of-29 free throws in the loss.

Boys’ results

The BV boys ran their season to 2-1 overall with Monday’s 17-point win.

Shane Reineke’s club never looked back after racing out to a 27-16 halftime lead.

Lucas Berens paced BV with 19 points to go with five boards.

Gavin Reineke chipped in with 12 points, four steals and three assists.

Jaidan Ten Eyck had nine points, five boards and four steals. Trevor Malone added six points, 11 boards and two assists for the winners.
