Denison-Schleswig was a 7-2 winner over Sioux City Heelan in varsity boys’ tennis action on Monday at Denison.
The win improved D-S to 5-0 in matches on the year. It was the first match that the Monarchs had not swept their opponent.
D-S athletes won five of six singles matches with the Monarchs picking up two wins in three doubles matches.
"We knew going in that Heelan’s number one player was extremely talented and he was even better than he was last year," commented Denison-Schleswig coach Aaron Ratliff.
"Coming off prom weekend, the guys managed to play solid enough to walk away with a comfortable win," he added.
Highlighting the win was Austin Freese’s 10-0 victory over Heelan’s Scotty Guo in the No. 6 position.
"Freese for the second week in a row didn’t drop a single game in either his singles or in doubles with the help of Harrison Dahm," Ratliff remarked.
In exhibition singles play, Logan Dahm and Adolfo Vargas of D-S both won matches over Jacob Gilreath, winning 8-1 and 8-3.
