Alex Mohr netted five goals and Vanessa Guardado added another, as Denison-Schleswig posted a 6-1 victory over Carroll High in a Class 2A girls’ regional semifinal soccer match on Tuesday night at Denison.
The win moved D-S to 6-8 overall and into Monday’s Region 1 title match against fourth-ranked Spencer at Spencer at 6 p.m.
Spencer advanced to the championship contest with a 10-0 victory over Spirit Lake on Tuesday night at Spencer.
Mohr’s five-goal night upped her season total to 27 goals for the Monarchs, which outshot the visiting Tigers 31-6, including 19-4 in shots on goal.
Kailey Pick played in goal for D-S and finished with three saves.
Emersyn Walsh scored the lone goal for Carroll, which finished 3-14 overall on the year.
"We moved our lineup around tonight and put five girls up front, two in the middle with three defenders. We wanted to try and score as much as possible and the girls did a great job of following the game plan," commented Denison-Schleswig coach Nick Bradley.
"We were able to score quick, as we continued to push the pace the entire game. We had several shots that the Carroll goalkeeper made great saves on."
