Six different girls had at least two hits on Tuesday night, as the Denison-Schleswig softball team picked up a 14-7 nonconference victory over Maple Valley/A-O/CO-U at Mapleton.
The win was the ninth in a row for D-S, which improved to 22-11 overall on the year.
After scoring two in the first inning and four in the second, D-S then plated five runs in the top of the fourth to take an 11-0 lead.
MV/A-O/CO-U, though, stayed alive by scoring five times in the bottom of the fifth to pull to within 11-5.
The host Rams then got two more in the sixth to make it 11-7, but the visiting Monarchs posted a three-run seventh for a seven-run advantage going into the Rams’ final at bat.
D-S had a total of 16 hits on the night.
Tatum Fink went 3-for-4 with a double, one run batted in and one run scored.
Alex Mohr went 2-for-3 with a triple and three runs scored. Raegan Andersen was 2-for-4 with four runs. Sarah Heilesen finished 2-for-3 with one RBI and three runs.
Kayla Rauch went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and one run, while Kailey Pick was 2-for-5 with one RBI and one run.
Paige Armijo also went 1-for-4 with three RBIs and one run. Kambrie Dau was 1-for-5 with one RBI and Anna Meyer was 1-for-1 at the plate.
Heilesen and Cambri Brodersen combined pitching efforts.
Heilesen earned the victory in six and one-third, allowing two runs on one hit with a whopping 16 strikeouts and six walks.
After a season-high 16-K attack, Heilesen upped her season total to 202 strikeouts and career total to 767.
Brodersen threw two-thirds of an inning, yielding five runs on five hits with two walks in the contest.
"We looked pretty good up to the bottom of the fifth inning. Then we let them score some runs and extend the game," commented Denison-Schleswig coach Kevin Dau.
"They got it to within 11-7, but then we scored three times in the seventh to give us a little more breathing room," he added.
"You know, we had 16 hits and got contributions up and down the lineup, so that was good to see," Dau said.
