Denison-Schleswig, ranked sixth in the state in Class 4A, picked up a Hawkeye 10 Conference doubleheader sweep of Shenandoah on Friday night at Denison.
D-S won game one, 8-2, and followed that up with a tight 3-2 triumph in game two.
The two wins moved D-S to 2-0 in the H-10 and 4-0 overall going into Thursday’s league doubleheader against Clarinda at Denison.
D-S won the opener despite being outhit 4-3.
The Monarchs used a four-run second inning to take a 5-1 lead. Up 6-2 after five innings, Kevin Dau’s club scored twice in the last of the sixth to make it a six-run cushion.
Kailey Pick went 1-for-3 with one run. Payton Goslar was 1-for-2 with two runs and Paige Armijo was 1-for-4 with two runs batted in for D-S.
Sarah Heilesen threw all seven innings for the win, as she gave up two runs on four hits, struck out 10 and walked one.
D-S also was outhit in game two, 8-5.
Down 1-0 after three innings, D-S plated two runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead for good at 2-1.
A run in the fifth made it 3-1 Monarchs. Shenandoah scored the final run of the game in the seventh.
Heilesen went 2-for-3 with a double and one run scored for D-S.
Raegan Andersen went 1-for-3 with one run for the Monarchs.
Pick was 1-for-3 with one RBI, while Kambrie Dau finished 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Heilesen picked up the pitching win in game two, as she yielded the two runs on eight hits with nine more Ks and two walks.
