Denison-Schleswig hosts own cross country invitational

Denison-Schleswig hosted its annual cross country invitational on Tuesday at the Northside Recreation Complex at Denison.

A total of 17 teams for the boys and 11 squads for the girls competed.

The D-S boys placed third overall with 132 points.

Okoboji won the team title for the boys with 83 points and Harlan was second with 116 points.

IKM-Manning ran sixth for the boys with 180 points and Boyer Valley finished 14th in the final team standings with 311 points.

The D-S girls placed fourth overall as a team with 125 points.

Harlan earned the team title with 37 points, followed by second-place Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln (85) and third-place Logan-Magnolia (98).

The BV girls ran ninth overall with 252 points.

IKM-Manning competed with only three girls.

Denison-Schleswig head coach Nick Bradley was pleased with his teams on Tuesday.

"The kids ran great tonight. We talked about this being our only home meet and being competitive. The kids really stepped up," Bradley said.

"All of our runners really pushed the pace tonight. The girls and boys have started to close the gap with some of the schools that we have seen already this year," he added.

D-S boys

Cory Miller led the D-S boys on Tuesday, placing 15th overall out of 118 athletes in 17 minutes, 41.50 seconds.

Spencer Moon of South Central Calhoun won the individual title in 15:59.12.

Esteban Martinez ran 21st for D-S in 17:47.85.

He was followed by Enrique Ledesma (24th, 17:56.66), Logan Dahm (26th, 18:00.47), Cole Carlson (46th, 19:06.19), DJ Meyers (62nd, 19:31.91) and Dalton Fredericks (67th, 19:44.59).

IKM-M boys

Quentin Dreyer was the top runner for IKM-Manning on Tuesday, placing ninth overall in 17:12.00.

Tanner Spoelstra ran 30th overall in a clocking of 18:11.66.

He was followed by Connor Keller (40th, 18:41.38), Adam Gruhn (50th, 19:10.72), Haven Reese (51st, 19:11.06), Joey Greazel (72nd, 19:57.10) and Carter Sorensen (90th, 20:47.91).

BV boys

Justin Ambrose led the BV boys on Tuesday by placing fourth overall in 16:28.25.

Ben Zehner ran 69th in 19:53.22.

He was followed by Nathaniel Green (73rd, 19:57.90), Clay Roberts (80th, 20:14.35), Adam Puck (86th, 20:22.95) and Ben Behrendt (115th, 24:41.50).

D-S girls

Raegan Andersen led the D-S girls at Denison, placing third overall out of 91 runners in a time of 19 minutes, 17.94 seconds.

Tri-Center sophomore Peyton Pogge won the individual title in 18:30.44.

Logan-Magnolia’s Courtney Sporrer took second in 19:00.18.

Morgan Goslar placed 19th for D-S in 21:07.50.

She was followed by Vanessa Gunderson (22nd, 21:32.03), Ana Lara (42nd, 23:23.88), Juliana Barajas (48th, 24:07.00), Madison Bruck (53rd, 24:27.00) and Elizabeth Cary (54th, 24:28.00).

BV girls

Kylie Petersen was the top runner for the BV girls on Tuesday, placing 24th overall in 21:56.10.

the course 40th in a time of 23:01.22.

She was followed by Sky Freeman (76th, 27:55.62), Caleigh Van Houten (83rd, 31:30.06), Nicole Behrendt (84th, 31:37.25) and Carly Lehan (87th, 31:56.97).

IKM-M girls

Emma Beerman ran 33rd overall to pace IKM-Manning in a time of 22:33.25.

McKenna Mullen ran 36th in 22:49.69 and Macie Doyel turned in a time of 24:33.78 for 55th.
