All-district baseball 2019

The Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association released its all-district teams recently for the 2019 season.

Four area athletes in their respective classes were recognized.

Denison-Schleswig had two honorees in the Northwest District of Class 3A.

Sophomore Braiden Heiden earned a spot on the first team as a utility player, while sophomore catcher Nathan Gallup was named to the second team.

Two other players were honored in the Southwest District of Class 1A.

Ar-We-Va senior Drew Schurke landed a spot on the first team as a utility player, while IKM-Manning senior first baseman Alex Lingle was recognized on the second team.

Heiden, who played as an infielder and pitcher for D-S, batted .360 this past season with 32 hits in 89 at bats with seven doubles and four triples to go with 25 runs batted in and 32 runs scored.

On the mound, Heiden went 3-4 overall with a 4.23 earned run average in 43 innings of work. He allowed 33 runs on 44 hits, struck out 58 and walked 29.

Gallup was a .333 hitter for the Monarchs with 31 hits in 93 at bats, accumulating 10 doubles and one home run with 27 RBIs and 17 runs scored.

Schurke hit .408 for Ar-We-Va with 20 hits in 49 at bats. He tallied five doubles, one triple and one home run to go with 18 RBIs and 20 runs scored.

As a pitcher, Schurke went 4-2 with a 1.69 ERA in 41-plus innings of work.

Lingle led IKM-Manning with a .383 batting average this past summer with 31 hits in 81 at bats.

His totals included two doubles, two triples, one home run, 11 RBIs and 14 runs scored.

Lingle also threw for the Wolves. He went 3-4 overall with a 6.18 ERA.
