The Denison-Schleswig varsity girls’ soccer team picked up its third consecutive victory on Friday night with a 3-2 triumph over Creston at Denison.
It was the first Hawkeye 10 Conference victory for D-S, which improved to 1-3 in the league and 3-3 overall in matches on the year.
Alex Mohr paced the D-S offense by scoring all three of her team’s goals, as she upped her season total to 10 goals, netting all 10 during the Monarchs’ current three-match win streak.
Mohr opened the scoring just over four minutes into the match.
The senior forward then tallied two second-half goals at the 49:50 and 54:45 marks.
The Monarchs outshot the Panthers 20-12 with both teams having 11 shots on goal.
Kailey Pick played in goal for D-S and finished with nine saves on the night.
"Another nice win for the Monarchs. We knew going that Creston was going to be a tough adversary," commented Denison-Schleswig coach Nick Bradley.
"The girls handled the pressure well. We were able to take advantage early in the game. Both sides pushed up the field to no avail for the remaineder of the first half," he added.
"Mohr was able to get a second goal in. Vanessa Gunderson just missed her first penalty kick attempt of the year. We got a little too comfortable with the lead and let Creston back into the game, as they were able to close the gap to one goal."
"We moved Ana Villa to the backfield to help build our defensive wall with six minutes to go and it paid off," Bradley said.
