The Denison-Schleswig baseball team picked up its fourth consecutive victory on Friday night, as the Monarchs posted a 10-0 shutout in five innings over Atlantic at Denison.
The win moved Travis Wessel’s D-S club to 3-1 in the Hawkeye 10 Conference and 4-2 overall on the year.
D-S opened the scoring with three runs in the second inning, adding four in the third, one in the fourth and two more in the fifth to win by the 10-run rule.
Jack Mendlik opened on the mound and threw all five innings for the Monarchs, as he gave up just two hits, struck out three and walked only one in a 65-pitch performance.
Mendlik also went 2-for-3 at the plate with three runs batted in and one run scored.
Dawson Dorhout was 2-for-4 with two runs.
Braiden Heiden went 1-for-3 with one RBI and one run. Nathan Gallup was 1-for-4 with one RBI and two runs. Sean Moran finished 1-for-2.
Jaden Petersen went 1-for-4 with a double, one RBI and one run, while Carter Wessel wound up 1-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs for the Monarchs.
Chase McLaren took the pitching loss for Atlantic in one and two-thirds innings of work, allowing two runs on two hits with two strikeouts to his credit.
The D-S junior varsity boys earned a 9-4 victory over Atlantic in the first game on Friday.
Hunter Emery started and threw three innings for the win.
He got relief help from Trey Brotherton and Parker Bekkerus.
The Monarchs plated seven runs in the bottom of the first, as Carlos Salazar and Jaxson Hildebrand set the tone with a triple and double, respectively, for the Monarch boys.
