Monarch girls place eighth at H-10 tennis tournament

The Denison-Schleswig girls wound up with four team points for eighth place at the Hawkeye 10 Conference Tennis Tournament that began at Denison on Monday and finished at Red Oak on Tuesday because of rain.

Red Oak claimed the H-10 team championship with 30 points. Shenandoah was second to the Tigers with 28 points, while Glenwood was third with 26 points.

Hannah Auen went 0-2 in the No. 1 singles tournament for D-S.

Sophie Walker of Red Oak won the No. 1 singles championship with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Shenandoah’s Nichole Gilbert.

Sarah Faya went 3-2 in her matches in the No. 2 singles tournament and took home seventh place for the Monarchs.

Faya lost to Glenwood’s Brielle Smith, the eventual No. 2 singles champion, in the quarterfinal round of the tournament.

Smith beat Red Oak’s Haley Plambeck for the No. 2 singles title.

The D-S No. 1 doubles team of Kayla Rauch and Ali Thul went 1-2 in their matches, while the Monarchs’ No. 2 doubles team of Ashley Rivas and Jocelyn Olivera lost both of their matches.
