Monarch girls run second at Mapleton

Adam Mich’s Denison-Schleswig girls’ track and field team garnered 164.5 points to take home second place at the Maple Valley/A-O/CO-U Invitational on Thursday at Mapleton.

It was the final regular season meet for D-S had six personal records on the night and competed without Alex Mohr and Vanessa Gunderson because of soccer.

Kingsley-Pierson/Woodbury Central won the team championship with 171 points.

Four girls won individual titles on Thursday at Mapleton.

Claiming gold medals were Sarah Heilesen in the discus (107 feet, 8 inches), Jaime Ibarra in the 100-meter hurdles (17.49 seconds), Bella Araujo in the 200-meter dash (28.21) and Raegan Andersen in the 1,500-meter run (5:19.38).

The Monarchs also won the shuttle hurdle relay with Kira Langenfeld, Hannah Neemann, Kennedy Marten and Ibarra running 1:12.64.

Picking up individual seconds were Heilesen in the shot put (36-8), Cierra Kastner in the 100-meter dash (14.07) and 200 meters (28.37) and Raegan Andersen in the 400-meter dash (1:03.84) and 800-meter run (2:33.05).

The sprint medley and 4x400 relay teams ran second as well.

Araujo, Paige Andersen, Cierra Kastner and Raegan Andersen ran 1:58.39, while the 4x400 squad of Morgan Goslar, Cierra Kastner, Hannah Slater and Paige Andersen turned in a time of 4:32.94.

Goslar ran third in the 800 (2:42.59). Marten also was third in the 400-meter hurdles (1:18.10).

The Monarchs placed third in the distance medley and 4x100 relays.

The distance medley team of Paige Kastner, Ellie Magnuson, Paige Andersen and Goslar circled the track in 4:53.28, while the 4x100 team of Paige Kastner, Lesley Chavez, Magnuson and Araujo finished in 54.94.

"The girls competed very well. We actually finished higher in 10 events than we were seeded going in, so that was good to see," commented Mich.

"Raegan Andersen ran her best times in the 400 and 800. Heilesen had her best throw in the shot as well," he added.

"Competing on the night without Mohr and Gunderson made a difference, as I think we would have won the meet if we would have had a full lineup, but I was very pleased with our performances tonight," Mich remarked.
