The Denison-Schleswig girls pulled off a Hawkeye 10 Conference softball doubleheader sweep on Thursday night at Glenwood.
D-S won game one, 4-2, and followed that up with a tight 1-0 victory in game two.
Winners of six in a row, Kevin Dau’s club moved to 12-4 in the H-10 and 19-11 overall.
"Two good wins against a good team on the road," commented Dau.
"We didn’t have a lot of hits in the two games, but we had a lot of quality at bats and did what we had to do. For the most part, we were pretty good in all three facets of the game," he added.
"Both pitchers threw well. Sarah (Heilesen) did a nice job in each game and gave up only seven hits on the night. It was just a battle between two very good pitchers and we were fortunate to come out on top."
"Two big conference wins for the girls. I couldn’t have been more proud of them for battling the way they did," Dau remarked.
D-S captured the first game with five hits.
Tied 1-1 after two innings, D-S plated two runs in the top of the fourth to take a 3-1 lead.
Glenwood got a run back in the last of the fifth to make it 3-2, but then the Monarchs scored the game’s final run in the sixth.
Alex Mohr went 2-for-4 with one run scored for D-S. Heilesen was 1-for-1 with a two-run home run, three runs batted in and two runs scored.
Kayla Rauch went 1-for-3 and Anna Meyer was 1-for-1. Raegan Andersen also scored a run for the winners.
Heilesen tossed all seven innings in the circle for the win. She gave up two runs on only four hits, struck out eight and walked six.
D-S scored the game’s only run in the top of the sixth inning for the win.
Mohr went 1-for-3 with a double to lead the Monarchs. Andersen was 1-for-2 and scored the only run of the contest.
Paige Armijo was 1-for-2 with one RBI and Rauch finished 1-for-3.
Heilesen also was the winning pitcher in game two, as she allowed only three hits with six Ks and four walks in throwing 112 pitches.
