D-S wrestling

The Denison-Schleswig wrestlers hosted a quadrangular meet on Thursday night with Sergeant Bluff-Luton, Sheldon/South O’Brien and Westwood, Sloan all joining the Monarchs on the mat at Denison.

Nick Bradley’s D-S club suffered three team losses, falling 58-24 to Westwood, 60-18 to Sheldon/South O’Brien and 60-21 to Sergeant Bluff-Luton.

The night’s results left D-S at 2-8 overall in duals on the year.

Highlighting the night for D-S was 220-pounder Max Rodriguez, who went 3-0 in his matches with three pins to his credit.

Monarch freshman Jaxson Hildebrand at 170 won two of his three matches with two victories by pins.

Rodriguez and Hildebrand both pinned their Westwood opponents, while 195-pounder Daniel Alcaraz also pinned his Rebel opponent.

Rodriguez and Hildebrand both won by pins against Sheldon/South O’Brien and were the two lone winners on the mat for the Monarchs.

Besides Rodriguez’s pin against SB-L’s Kaiden Dillavou, the Monarchs also got a pin from Javier Gonzales and a 5-4 win by decision from Treyton Fender against the Warriors.

"The Monarchs wrestled three tough opponents tonight. Sergeant Bluff-Luton is always tough and have their share of state-ranked wrestlers," commented Bradley.

"Fender’s last-second reversal to win the match at 182 was the highlight of the dual against Sergeant Bluff-Luton," he added.

"Hildebrand and Rodriguez both had great nights with winning records on the evening."

"As a team, we are trying to stay healthy as the injury bug has hit us a bit at the varsity level, but junior varsity wrestlers are willing and able to step in and get some varsity matches," Bradley remarked.
