The Denison-Schleswig boys extended their win streak to five games on Friday night with a 7-2 Hawkeye 10 Conference baseball victory at Shenandoah.
The victory avenged a 4-1 setback to Shenandoah back on May 23 at Denison and moved Travis Wessel’s D-S squad to 8-2 in the H-10 and 10-4 overall on the season.
Leading 1-0 after two innings, D-S plated three runs in the top of the fifth for a 4-0 lead.
Shenandoah plated a run in the last of the sixth to make it 4-1, but the Monarchs then pushed three more runs across in the seventh to make it 7-2.
The Mustangs managed one run in their final at bat to end the scoring.
D-S hitters continued to swing hot bats, as the Monarchs collected 12 more hits in the win.
Jack Mendlik went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored.
Dawson Dorhout was 2-for-3 with a double, one run batted in and one run. Braiden Heiden also went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs.
Carter Wessel was 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run. Sean Moran went 1-for-4. Jaden Petersen also was 1-for-4 with a two-run home run.
Evan Turin finished 1-for-3 with one RBI as well.
Turin also picked up the pitching win for the Monarchs. He went six innings, allowing two runs on six hits with six strikeouts and three walks.
Petersen tossed one inning in relief, yielding no runs on no hits with one walk.
"It was a good win for the guys, especially coming off a long road trip to Creston the night before," commented Wessel.
"The guys seem to be playing with a lot of confidence. We’re doing the little things we need to do and we’re manufacturing runs," he added.
"Our pitching has been very good and we’re getting quality innings out of our starters with the defense playing pretty solid behind them for the most part."
"We just have to keep it going against a pretty good St. Albert team on Tuesday night," Wessel said.
D-S will host Council Bluffs St. Albert in a varsity doubleheader tonight (Tuesday) at Denison at 5:30 p.m.
