The Denison-Schleswig boys handed Lewis Central its first Hawkeye 10 Conference loss on Monday night, as the Monarchs rallied for an 8-7 victory on the baseball diamond at Council Bluffs.
The win avenged a 10-1 loss to LC back on June 4 at Denison and moved the Monarchs to 10-5 in the H-10 and 12-8 overall.
With the loss, LC fell to 13-1 in the conference and 16-6 overall, as the Titans lost for the first time in five games.
The win also snapped a 10-game losing streak to LC. The Monarchs last beat the Titans 6-4 in 14 innings back on June 10, 2014, at Denison.
D-S and LC combined for 27 hits in all and 10 runs in the first two innings of play.
The Monarchs scored three runs in their initial at bat. The Titans got two back in their half of the first.
D-S pushed one run across in the top of the second for a 4-2 lead, but LC came right back with four runs in the lower half to take a 6-4 advantage.
It stayed that way until D-S plated a run in the fifth to make it 6-5.
The Monarchs then tallied one run in the sixth and one in the seventh to take an 8-6 lead over the Titans.
LC plated one run in its final at bat and stranded the tying run at second base.
D-S outhit LC, 15-12.

Sean Moran also was 3-for-4 with three runs batted in and one run.
Carter Wessel continued to swing a hot bat by going 3-for-4 with one RBI. Jack Mendlik was 2-for-4 with one RBI and two runs.

Nathan Gallup went 1-for-4 with one RBI and Dylan Gehlsen was 1-for-4 with one run as well.
D-S stranded a total of 10 runners, while LC left 11 on the bases.
The Monarchs, though, were able to steal seven bases against the Titans on the night.
Evan Turin and Mendlik combined pitching efforts in the win.
Turin threw six and one-third, allowing seven runs (five earned) on 12 hits with four strikeouts and three walks.
Mendlik picked up the save in two-thirds innings of work. He struck out one and walked one.
Lewis Central won the junior varsity game, 5-4.
D-S actually led 4-3 when LC scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth for the win.
Logan Dahm and Caden Fletcher each saw time on the mound for the Monarchs.
"It was just a very good high school baseball game," commented Denison-Schleswig coach Travis Wessel.
"I couldn’t be more proud of the guys. We talked about doing the little things that you need to do to win games and the guys responded tonight against LC’s top two pitchers," he added.
