Elijah Rangel netted two goals on Monday night, as Denison-Schleswig earned a 4-2 Hawkeye 10 Conference boys’ soccer victory over Kuemper Catholic at Carroll.
The win moved D-S to 3-0 in Hawkeye 10 play and 7-3 overall in matches on the season.
D-S led 1-0 at halftime, as Rangel scored with only six seconds remaining before the break on a shot from six yards out.
It was his seventh goal of the year.
Kuemper tied it at 1-1 with 27:16 left in the match on a shot from 30 yards out.
Rangel then put D-S up 2-1 with 25:03 left, as he netted his eighth goal of the season after a one-on-one with Kuemper’s goalkeeper from eight yards out.
Then with 11:57 left, Kuemper put its second goal through to tie the contest at 2-2.
The Monarchs then tallied back-to-back goals for the win, as Jack Vazquez scored with 10:11 left on a direct kick from 45 yards and Johnny Romo with 9:12 remaining on a shot from 10 yards out.
The goals were the first of the season for both Vazquez and Romo.

Juan Lopez and Efren Magana both played in goal for D-S, as Lopez had seven saves and Magana three.
"It was a good conference win and kept one of our goals of winning the conference within reach," commented Denison-Schleswig coach Carlos Trevino.
"For some reason we can never put a complete game together when we play Kuemper. We did some good things to pick up our game both times after Kuemper scored, but there were times we looked like were sleepwalking," he added.
The D-S junior varsity boys topped Kuemper Catholic, 3-0, as the Monarchs moved to 10-1-1 overall in matches on the year.
Edgar Lara, Juan Chino and Ramon Perez all scored goals for D-S, which outshot the Knights 27-7, including 12-5 in shots on goal.
Yahir Zavala had four saves in goal for the Monarchs. Roberto Nah had one non-keeper goal.
"We completely dominated possession and passed the ball well to create good scoring chances," commented D-S coach Chris Eller.
