The Ar-We-Va girls and boys returned to the hardwood floor on Thursday night, as the Rocket teams were winners over Storm Lake St. Mary’s in nonconference play at Storm Lake.
In game one, Ar-We-Va’s Emilee Danner tallied 31 points leading the Rockets to a 71-47 victory.
In game two, the Ar-We-Va boys showed little rust from the holiday break, as the Rockets claimed a lopsided 74-32 triumph over the host Panthers.
Ar-We-Va picked up its second consecutive win with Thursday’s 24-point triumph on the road, as the Rockets moved to 7-2 overall on the season.
Besides netting 31 points, Danner also pulled down seven boards with five steals and three shot blocks.
Emily Hinners added 17 points and seven boards, while Jadeyn Smith had 10 points and eight boards for the Rockets, which led 35-22 at halftime and 52-35 going into the fourth quarter.
"We got off quickly with steals and breakaways," commented Ar-We-Va coach Dan Kock.
"We had a five- or six-minute stretch in the third quarter when we held them scoreless and we were able to push the lead to 30," he added.
Matt Wilken’s Ar-We-Va club had little trouble with St. Mary’s, leading 18-2 after one quarter, 36-14 at halftime and 59-22 after three quarters.
Keegan Simons posted yet another double-double to lead Ar-We-Va with 18 points and 15 boards.
Drew Schurke added 17 points, seven assists and two boards.
Derek Oeser also had 10 points, three boards and two assists.
Wyatt Neumann finished with eight points, seven boards and two shot blocks, while Will Ragaller had seven points, three boards and three assists.
Brady Miller contributed four points as well for the Rockets.
