The Ar-We-Va girls collected 14 hits and opened their 2019 softball season on Wednesday night with a 12-8 victory over Boyer Valley at Dow City.
With the loss, BV fell to 0-2 in the Rolling Valley Conference and overall.
Ar-We-Va came out hitting and scored nine runs in the top of the first inning. The Rockets then led 12-2 before the host Lady Bulldogs scored six consecutive runs over the final five innings to make it tight.
Hannah Kraus paced Ar-We-Va by going 4-for-5 with three runs scored and two stolen bases.
Maggie Ragaller went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Jadeyn Smith was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and one run.
Emily Hinners also went 2-for-5 with a double, three RBIs and one run. Maci Ruch went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run and two runs scored.
Leslie Luft finished 1-for-5 with one RBI and one run. Sara Schurke was 1-for-5 with two RBIs and one run, while Jamie Hausman wound up 1-for-4 on the night.
Smith threw all seven innings for the win, as she gave up five hits, struck out one and walked six.
Jaci Petersen led all BV hitters by going 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.
Nicole Behrendt went 2-for-3 with two singles and a stolen base. Taylor Klein was 2-for-4 with two singles. Leah Cooper finished 2-for-5 with one RBI and two stolen bases.
Marie Hanigan was 1-for-2 and Alexia Miller finished 1-for-3 for the Lady Bulldogs. Kenzie Dumbaugh was 1-for-1 as well.
Behrendt suffered the pitching loss, striking out three and walking six.
