The Ar-We-Va girls and boys closed out their pre-Christmas schedules on Friday, December 21, with Rolling Valley Conference victories over West Harrison at Mondamin.
In game one, the Ar-We-Va girls claimed their fourth win in five games with a 67-33 victory.
In game two, four Ar-We-Va boys scored in double figures, as the Rockets remained unbeaten with a 74-37 triumph over the host Hawkeyes.
Ar-We-Va, which went into the game ranked 15th in the state in Class 1A, improved to 6-1 in the RVC and 6-2 overall with the win.
Up 20-6 after one quarter, Ar-We-Va led 38-19 at halftime and 63-26 after three quarters.
Emilee Danner drained five three-point baskets and poured in 26 points, completing a nice all-around night with nine rebounds, six assists, six steals and five blocks.
Leslie Luft added 18 points, four assists and four steals.
Emily Hinners also had eight points and five boards for the Rockets.
Ar-We-Va’s 37-point win moved Matt Wilken’s Rocket club to 7-0 in the RVC and 8-0 overall.
Leading 22-5 after the first quarter, Ar-We-Va went into halftime with a 37-19 advantage.
Drew Schurke led the Rockets with 18 points, an effort that put him over 1,000 points for his career.
He also dished out six assists and pulled down four boards.
Schurke needed only eight points in the game to reach the milestone and now has 1,010 career points and counting.
Keegan Simons added 16 points, seven boards, five assists and two steals.
Henry Segebart had 14 points, while Derek Oeser finished with 11 points and five assists.
Wyatt Neumann also had five points, 10 boards and three assists in the win.
