Sioux City West picked up a 3-2 soccer victory in overtime against the Denison-Schleswig girls on Monday night at Denison.
The loss snapped a three-match win streak for D-S, which fell to 3-4 overall in matches on the year.
Alex Mohr scored both goals for D-S, the first at the 23:28 mark of the first half and the second at the 47:31 mark of the second half.
Tied at 2-2 at the end of regulation, West scored the winning goal within the initial 10-minute overtime session.
West outshot D-S, 28-21, including 23-14 in shots on goal.
Kailey Pick played in goal for the Monarchs and had 20 saves on the night.
"What a game for the Monarchs. We knew that West was going to be a tough opponent, as they had lost a lot of games by one or two goals," commented Denison-Schleswig coach Nick Bradley.
"We also knew that the game would be physical and the girls handled the game great," he added.
"We were able to get off several shots on goal in the second half. Mohr just missed on a couple of shots, as she had two go off the crossbar."
"In overtime, we got clustered up defensively and West was able to take advantage. This was a good learning game for the girls," Bradley said.
